Born in Constantinople, probably around the turn of this century, Marika Frantzeskopoulou was one of the first generation of women singers of the Smyrnaiko style rebetiko tragoudi on 78 r.p.m discs. The earliest records available for her in the E.M.I. archives in Hayes, Middlesex, England, show that she recorded a well-known hasiklidiko song “Yi'afto foumaro cocaine” in Athens, in October, 1932.
