Sermie was born in Athens. Along with his general education he studied Music, Theoretical Music and Singing at the Hellenic Conservatory. He was awarded his Diplomas of Fugue and Singing with distinctions and First Prizes. Later he went to Rome, Italy to the Academy of Theater where he obtained his Acting Diploma. He also participated in many Singing, Acting and Staging Seminars. In 1971 he was engaged by the Athens Opera House as a chorister and very soon as a soloist singing in many of the Operas and Operettas of Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Rossini, Mascagni, Mozart, Stauss, Britten, Bizet, Mussorgski, Giordano, Massenet, Lehar, Abraham, Sakelaridis, Hatziapostolou, etc. Sermie's knowledge of Music, Acting, Singing and Staging enables him to work simultaneously to Singing and Staging in the Athens Opera House. For some years he was a member of St. George Karytsis Choir. Later he created and still conducts the "Dionissios Lavragas" chorus in Athens.
