Swingtime Quintet

The SwingTime band was formed in the summer of 2007 and is based in Thessaloniki, Greece. Our current line up is Stergios Loustas (violin) Lakis Tzimkas (double bass) Thanasis Tsintsifas (acoustic guitar) Kostas Liagouras (acoustic guitar) and Sakis Bardouniotis (acoustic guitar).

We enjoy playing Gypsy Swing (or Gypsy Jazz) music, a musical style that was mostly popularized by the Quintette of the Hot club of France in the 1930’s, the band in which guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli initially demonstrated their innovative, powerful yet lyrical style of interpreting popular jazz tunes and their own original compositions.

Our repertoire comes largely from the recorded music of Django Reindhart although it includes several other arrangements of tunes we find interesting and fun to perform.

As we are interested in introducing Gypsy swing to a wider audience, we are also open to meeting people who wish to jam with us or simply share their enthusiasm and interest for Gypsy Swing.
