Biography
“Himerini Kolimvites” are a unique case of a music group. They are not only mostly famous for their successful live performances and their fans, but also for the distinctive voice and personality of Argiris Bakirtzis. Himerinoi Kolimvites propose a different “sui generis” concert which remains unforgettable to those that have attended it at least once.
Their rare appearances come as an event and every concert of theirs is different because it is created “on the spot” along with the participation of the audience and is distinguished not only for their music proposal that combines traditional and artistic elements by expert musicians but also for the cozy atmosphere they create with their audience.
HIMERINI KOLIMVITES have been together as a group for thirty years already as they started in 1979. The group consists of the following musicians:
Argiris Bakirtzis: vocals
He was born in Thessaloniki. He is a self-taught musician. He writes lyrics and music.
Costas Vomvolos: accordion, qunun
He was born in Volos. He composes music for the theatre and cinema.
Michalis Siganidis: contrabass, mandolin, vocals
He was born in Thessaloniki. He writes lyrics and composes music for the theatre and cinema.
Costas Sideris: tzouras (a stringed instrument like a small bouzouki), vocals
He was born in Florina. He is a self-taught musician
Thodoris Rellos: Clarinet,saxophone
He was born in Athens. He is the charter member of the group “Mode Plagal”. He deals with modern jazz and traditional music.
Haris Papadopoulos: bouzouki
He was born in Katerini. He writes lyrics and composes music.
Giorgos Tamkatzoglou:
He was born in Edessa.He composes music
Dimitris Polizoidis:
He was born in Thessaloniki. He lives in Vienna and he occasionally contributes to the group’s recordings and live concerts
Though Himerini Kolimvites is an eight member group, they have many main collaborator musicians and side ones like: Stavros Karamaniolas (92 years old, song writer and poet from Kazavati, Thasos), Dionissios Roussos (handy-man from Peristeri, Athens), “Rox” (a choir of senior citizens from Thessaloniki), Martha Mavroidi,music bands from West Macedonia and many others.
