Biography
Nektarios Sfyrakis was born in Germany, though of Cretan origin, he relocated to Greece and grew up in Piraeus.
His interest in music began at the age of 14 where he joined a church choir group in Piraeus. While in school he worked as a musician.
Upon completing his schooling he left Greece to explore with various forms of music in Austria, France and Germany.
When he returned to Greece he served as a novice sub-lieutenant, after his term of military service more...he came into contact with a representative of WARNER MUSIC and in 1997 he released his first album titled “DEN IME POUTHENA” On this album we find the known titles “den ime pouthena”, “nai mou to’ pane”, “logia logia” “ise pia sto parelthon” and “anteho”. The next album released was “APOPSE FEFGO” in 1998 with the hits “tha’ rxome krifa tis nihtes”, “psemata” and “apopse fefgo”. Nektarios Sfyrakis was honoured when Vasilis Skoulas, a prominent Cretan folkloric musician (a colleague of Gianni Markopoulos), took part in this album. In his 1999 album "HORIS RISKO" we find musicians such as, Kostas Tournas, Christos Dantis, Nikos Terzis, Aki Diksimos and many others who helped write the hits “tragoudi melanholiko” “hilia asteria”, “fefgo me to proto treno”. Vaggelis Kostandinidis from Laura non che wrote the lyrics to “skepsou kala”, becoming a great success.
Towards the end of 2001 he released the album “SE PIO PARAMITHI NA ZO” in collaboration with Kiki Lesendrich (a colleague of Goran Bregovich, “O diskos me ta halkina” with Manolis Mitsias) with the hits “se pio paramithi na zo” and “taksidaki mou”.
In April 2003 he released the album titled “PES MOU” which moves within a more folk path and style, that might surprise with the choice of the folk sound as the main sound, which comes from more traditional instruments; The 'sazi', 'outi' and the Cretan lyre, another new collaboration with his new label MBI.
In June 2006 he released the album " TAKSE MOU" included the hit HABIBI a duet with Nayer Fouad,
From his personal style of interpretation and composition, Nektarios Sfyrakis has managed to get his songs to be loved by people of all ages, with influences from one genre to another, from the folk forms to the pop-rock styles with success, its clear that he is very loved by the greater mass public.
When he has some time away from the studio, rehearsals or public appearances, he skis either on the snow slopes or the water, flies with a single engine aircraft (he's a member of the TATOI flying club), or he can be found in a gym.
A person with social success, he is an organ donor and an advocate of the Association of children with cancer (ELPIDA), where he received an award for his contribution to the demonstration, was recognized at the presidential mansion, from the president of the Democracy, Konstantinos Stefanopoulos, on 24th of November 2003. He has been tinvolver in many demonstrations for issues which concern children with special needs and abilities, in Greece and Cyprus.
In september 2002, he composed the music for the video "Pros ti Niki" which won an award for Best Short Film (drama) with a screenplay by Thanasis Naskarhs.
