Biography

Born in Piraeus in June 11th 1958, Pandelis Thalassinos is a genuine islander. His father, Michalis, was born in the island of Chios and his mother, Euaggelia, was descended from Serifos.

In the age of 2, Pantelis moves with his family to Chios, where he attends to school. It was there that, for the first time at the age of 7, he starts playing guitar.

1967 finds Pantelis back to Piraeus, where he participates in many small bands, playing mainly rock music.

In 1976, he embarks for one year on the ship “Kapetan Stamatis”. Upon his return, he starts performing semi-professionally in small music scenes around Athens. At the same time he works for a shipping agency, where he remained for 12 years.

In February 1980, Pantelis is called to serve his military duties in Ryzia, Evros, and Kastanies. 22 months later his military service is over and Pantelis returns to Piraeus. He continues to perform live in various stages -the most important among them being ‘Petra kai Fos ~ Stone and Light’. In 1996, together with Yiannis Nikolaou, he forms the group ‘Lathrepivates ~ The Stowaways’, who release their first album, titled ‘Apopse Leo Na Min Koimithoume’, in Minos record company. At the same time, they make their first live performance as a group, in ZYGOS, Plaka, on the side of Haris Alexiou and Harry Klynn. 5 years and 3 albums later, Lathrepivates disband and their two members follow their own, separate ways.

Pandelis returns to Chios, where he creates the live stage “Myrovolos”. It is there that his first personal album ‘Nixtas Kimata ~ Night Waves’ is born. In January 1994, he once more departs from Chios and starts performing live in Athens. He plays in many live stages like “Roptro”, “Nefeli”, “13 feggaria”, “Panselinos”, and “Myrovolos” of Athens. He also appears in Thessaloniki, in the live stages “Mylos”, “Aigli” and “Ydrogeios”. During the summer periods, he performs in Myrovolos of Paros (for 4 consecutive seasons) and gives concerts around Greece.

Currently Pantelis is co-operating with the singing trio ‘Triphono’, which consists of Nikos Kouroupakis, Dimitris Yfantis and Erophylli. He is also the producer of their maxi single ‘Karavia Moiazoun oi Psixes’. The four of them have given live concerts in Thessaloniki (Mylos) and Athens (Stauros tou Notou).

Pantelis Thalassinos has already released 6 personal albums and has participated in more than 30, as a composer or guest singer.

The covers of his albums are engravings of the great Nikos Gialouris from Chios, who unfortunately is no longer with us.
